Flat earthers don’t believe other major, conventional scientific findings. Some may find it ridiculous that people believe the earth is flat, but it is more appalling to know what they do not believe. In 2018, YouGov polled over 8000 adults to get Americas’s view on the shape of the earth. Surprisingly, millions of people swear by this theory. They believe we have never been outside of the firmament because it is impossible to leave. In their model of the Earth, there is also a dome, called the firmament, that covers the surface, concealing the atmosphere. They believe that the Earth isn’t a spherical globe, but instead a disc shape with the land masses, with the North pole in the center, lying flat surrounded by an Antarctic ice barrier. The ‘Flat Earth’ conspiracy has recently become a widely popular theory and the followers of this theory are known as “flat earthers.” It started with Samuel Rowbotham from London in the mid-19th century and since then a society of flat earthers has grown immensely.
